Architect Paul Miller called it, “The most exciting golf project I’ve ever been involved in,” and (in his opinion at least) they succeeded at building Minnesota’s greatest golf experience. The course has won numerous awards over the years and became a perennial mainstay on every “Best in State” golf list from the nation’s preeminent publications. As it stands today, Mystic Lake Casino Hotel has a gorgeous golf course called “The Meadows” designed by Garrett Gill and Paul Miller. The plan worked on a number of different levels. Valleyfair would still be THE great escape for kids, and Mystic Lake Casino could be the great escape for adults.” (I imagine a room full of people high-fiving each other.) “What if,” they wondered, “we turned this facility into a golf, gaming and getaway oasis. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community had some lofty ambitions there too. Valleyfair – Minnesota’s biggest and best amusement park – was the entertainment capital of the state. At the time that area was best known for being home to Valleyfair. Paul metroplex, between Prior Lake and Shakopee. That course, Lone Pine, was located in the southeast corner of the Minneapolis-St. They did it because they wanted to redesign that design into one of the best golf courses, not only in the Twin Cities, but in all of Minnesota. When the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community purchased a course called Lone Pine in 2002, they didn’t do so just to own a golf course.
